From bare shell to starting grid.
Four years ago, this was a bare Austin Healey Sprite shell, bought off Facebook Marketplace by someone with no motorsport background, no mechanical background and if we’re honest, no real idea what he was signing up for.
What followed was four years of building, breaking, fixing and testing. In August 2026 it turned up at Oulton Park as a fully prepared historic race car and completed its first competitive meeting.
It’s a long way from a shell in a garage. It’s also the reason this page exists.

Then we actually raced it.
A round of the Midget & Sprite Challenge with the Classic Sports Car Club, at a circuit I’d only ever visited as a novice on trackdays.
Scrutineering passed. Qualifying four seconds quicker than I’d ever gone here. Two twenty-minute races, one spin at Hislops, and my fastest laps of the weekend set while trying to recover from it. Car and driver home in one piece.
Lap times improved through every session of the weekend. Nobody was more surprised than the owner.

So, what’s next?
2027.
Having got the first meeting out of the way without embarrassing anybody, the plan for 2027 is a fuller programme of historic racing.
There are no claims of championship glory here. What there is: a genuinely good-looking historic race car, a season’s worth of preparation, testing and race weekends, and all the photography, video and content that comes with it.
And to take one business along for each round of it.

And it’s already working.
Apparently one race weekend wasn’t enough. We were out again at the Castle Combe Autumn Classic for the Healey 3000 Ian Cox Memorial Trophy — sharing a grid with rather more serious Healeys, including plenty of 3000s.
Classic to Current Transmissions partnered the weekend and had their name on the car. Twenty-six cars out, finished 15th, and a second and a half quicker in the race than in qualifying. Consider this a live demonstration of everything described below.
